The Keep Calm & Carry On Journal


KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON was a poster designed in 1939 by the British Ministry of Information. It was intended to send a message to the citizens of Britain in time of war, to steel their resolve and boost their morale.

While similar posters were to be found all over the country during World War Two, the KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON poster was never actually put into use.

However, it was rediscovered in 2000 at a second-hand book shop in Alnwick, Northumberland, England called Barter Books. Since the copyright on works created by the British government expires after 50 years, the poster was now in the public domain. Soon the shop was selling reprinted copies of the poster, and since then it has inspired countless products, featuring the original poster as well as parodies of it.
